Experience

Gail A. Campbell is an experienced trial attorney who has focused her legal career on the practice of criminal law. Prior to founding Campbell & Jayne LLP with Julia Mezhinsky Jayne, Ms. Campbell served for eight years as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County. As a prosecutor, Ms. Campbell handled thousands of cases ranging in severity from drug and property crimes to violent offenses and sexual assaults. She has independently tried more than 40 jury trials, more than half of which were felony offenses. Many of the cases that Ms. Campbell has tried have fallen under the "three strikes" law. In addition, she has a working knowledge of DNA evidence and has presented this evidence at trial numerous times. Ms. Campbell's trial record is impeccable as she has only lost one of her felony jury trials.

As a Deputy District Attorney, Ms. Campbell worked in a variety of assignments. These assignments included the felony trial team, sexual assault, elder abuse, and the juvenile division. While assigned to the elder abuse unit, she handled a great deal of white collar and financial crimes that were committed against elders. In addition to her trial experience, Ms. Campbell has extensive experience in the filing of criminal charges and negotiating resolutions in both misdemeanor and felony cases.

Prior to her employment as a Deputy District Attorney, Ms. Campbell served as a law clerk for the Department of Justice, United States Attorney's Office in Sacramento. In addition, Ms. Campbell was a legal intern for Community Legal Services in Sacramento where she represented indigent clients in family law cases and landlord-tenant issues.

Ms. Campbell is a member of both the Criminal Justice Act Panel ("CJA Panel") for the Northern District of California and of the San Francisco Indigent Defense Panel. She is also a co-chair of the Criminal Law & Government Investigations Section of the San Francisco Bar Association's Barrister's Club, and is a member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyer's Association.
