Experience
Gail A. Campbell is an experienced trial attorney who has focused her legal career on the practice of criminal law. Ms. Campbell represents clients who are being investigated for, or charged with, all types of criminal offenses in both state and federal court. She has successfully defended individuals in a large array of cases such as DUI, drug possession and sales, burglary, robbery, theft, fraud, assault, sexual assault and child molestation, domestic violence, firearms violations, “three strikes” and every other imaginable criminal violation. Ms. Campbell has extensive jury trial experience and has tried criminal cases in both state and federal court. She has had outstanding results in her cases which range from extremely favorable plea agreements to the outright dismissal of charges.
Prior to founding Campbell & Jayne LLP with Julia Mezhinsky Jayne, Ms. Campbell served for eight years as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County. As a prosecutor, Ms. Campbell handled thousands of cases ranging in severity from drug and property crimes to violent offenses and sexual assaults. While she was a prosecutor, she independently tried more than 40 jury trials. Ms. Campbell worked in a variety of assignments while she was a prosecutor. These assignments included the felony trial team, sexual assault, elder abuse, and the juvenile division. While assigned to the elder abuse unit, she handled a great deal of white collar and financial crimes that were committed against elders. In addition to her trial experience, Ms. Campbell has extensive experience in the filing of criminal charges and negotiating resolutions in both misdemeanor and felony cases.
Prior to her employment as a Deputy District Attorney, Ms. Campbell served as a law clerk for the Department of Justice, United States Attorney's Office in Sacramento. In addition, Ms. Campbell was a legal intern for Community Legal Services in Sacramento where she represented indigent clients in family law cases and landlord-tenant issues.
